Instagram And Snapchat Remove Giphy Feature Because Racists Are Still Here

You may have noticed that you are currently unable to make your already very interesting (I’m sure) Instagram stories even more interesting via the magic of gifs. This is because an incredibly offensive gif made its way past the Giphy moderators and was found within both Instagram and Snapchat under the relatively normal search term: ‘Crime’.

As soon as the discovery went around the internet, Snapchat announced it would pull its partnership with Giphy. Instagram, who also use Giphy’s database, followed.

Giphy has now assigned its staff to personally inspecting every single gif on the site. “We take full responsibility for these recent events and sincerely apologise to anyone who was offended,” a spokesperson said.
