In Case You Didn’t Think Lorde Was Already Better Than You, She’s Now Learning Piano Too

Our favourite indie pop sad girl, Lorde, is currently busy planning to start work on a new record. And guess what? Just in case you didn’t already feel inadequate compared to the 22-year-old singer — she’s learning to play piano now, too.

Following her Melodrama tour (and the melodrama that happened when she accused Kanye and Kid Cudi of ripping off the stage design from said tour), Lorde quit social media, leaving fans wondering WTF she was up to. Well, not to worry, because the Green Light’ singer sent out an e-mail yesterday, giving everyone the details.

“As you know, I don’t really have social media anymore, but I wanted to share some pictures and thoughts from the end of the tour with you,” she wrote. “Eyeris counted up 116 performances this your. That includes shows, festivals, radio thingies, TV performances… holy shit I have no idea how we did all those bloody performances! And now it’s the end, and I’m caught in an overwhelming mix of relief, gratitude, mourning, elation, and exhaustion.”

“I haven’t started properly on the next record yet, and I’m not sure how long it’ll be,” she added. “But I’ve been teaching myself how to play piano, and here and there little bits come out. I think this next one will probably be born around the piano in my house, me and my friends, keeping it simple. But we’ll see.”

We will, indeed. And in the meantime, between piano lessons, since Lorde is no longer on social media, she’ll just be “[sitting] at home at my kitchen table with the dog under my feet and the doors wide open, [being] thankful.” How sweet.
