Ariana Grande’s Next Single Is A Sad Girl Ballad And Out Tonight

All it will say about 2018 is: “Thank U, Next.” And while Ari already answered our prayers when she dropped the music video for the single, she’s giving us the ultimate Christmas present in the form of another new track. “Imagine,” which drops this Thursday at midnight (in the US), will be another breakup anthem — this time in the form of the ultimate sad girl ballad. We can’t wait.

Replying to fans on Twitter, the singer said the song was about “a simple, beautiful love that is now (and forever) unattainable.”

“A lot of this album mourns failed yet important, beautiful relationships in my life (as well as celebrates growth / new indepence),” she wrote to another. “I would say if ‘Thank U, Next’ = acceptance, ‘Imagine’ = denial and pretending it never ended.”

“I look forward to you hearing it and having your own experience with it,” she added. “You may take away something totally different and specific to your life! Love u.”
