Missy Elliot Drops ‘Iconology’ Her First Record In 14 Years [Watch]
Work it.
Just a few days away from being the first female rapper to receive MTV’s Video Vanguard Award at the VMA’s, Missy Elliot is back with new music — her first record in 14 years.
Yesterday, the rapper took to Instagram to announce Iconology, a five-track EP which dropped overnight.
“This year has been a tremendous year for me…I am humbled and grateful,” she wrote. “THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me! So, I have a SURPRISE for you… let’s continue the celebration at midnight tonight…I’m dropping a collection of new songs! Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance!” singing the post, “Dr. Melissa “Missy” Elliott.”
Over the last few years, Missy has struggled with health problems due to Graves’ Disease, but it hasn’t stopped her. She has released a slew of singles, and made an epic cameo on Lizzo’s ‘Tempo’. The rapper has been teasing us for the last few months, hinting at a comeback, so we been ready for a major release — her first record since 2005’s The Cookbook.
With it comes a brand new clip, #THROWITBACK, which you can watch below!
