King Princess, Joanna Newsom & More Rep Rodarte’s New Tom Petty Capsule
Yer so bad 🌼
Fresh off their NYFW show, Rodarte has revealed an extra special collab with the late musical icon, Tom Petty. Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy have teamed up with Petty’s daughters, Adria and Annakim Violette on a limited edition run of Radarte pieces inspired by Petty’s 1994 classic, Wildflowers.
Petty has long been an influence on the designers — since they saw him perform back in 1995 — and Wildflowers is one of their favourite records.
“Tom Petty’s musical legacy has inspired us deeply as artists,” said Laura in a press release.
Featuring tees, hoodies and sweats featuring original artwork made by Kate and Laura’s mother, the collection “has that 60’s feeling our dad loved so much and it is incredible watching designers so good at their craft creating art inspired by our father’s music. It just feels like Wildflowers sounds,” added Annakim Violette.
To celebrate the collection, Rodarte tapped some other iconic artists, including King Princess, Joanna Newsom, Weyes Blood, Japanese Breakfast, Kilo Kish and Gabbriette from Nasty Cherry.
“This is a passion project inspired by my sister and it is a really loving tribute to our dad,” said Adria Petty, adding that they especially love the collection because it gives back to the music community. 25% of the proceeds from the collection will go to the D’Addario Foundation’s Girls in Music Initiative, which gives female musicians the resources they need “to pursue their dreams in music and beyond through instrument instruction, scholarships, and leadership development programs.”
Out now, the collection is extremely limited — think of it like a rare Traveling Wilburys LP or a Wildflowers first pressing. So, you’ll be left with Only A Broken Heart if you can’t get your hands on it… Sorry, that was too easy.
