Alexa Chung's Book Will Be Like Rookie
Won't just be a 'style bible'.
Alexa Chung, award-winning wearer of clothes and soon-to-be designer, is set to release a book next year. Despite the upcoming publication being widely reported as a 'how-to' book, the It-girl has told Fashionista that the book will have a tad more substance, quoting Tavi Gevinson's Rookie book as a source of inspiration. If a Google image search is anything to go by, Alexa and Tavi (who we featured in Oyster #99) are buddies — they probably even have pet names for each other like Chunggers and T-Gev. They both love a good Peter Pan collar, have sat next to each other front row, and Alexa even made an appearance at Rookie's 1st Birthday party (below).

But is it wise to compare your not-yet-published-book to Tavi Gevinson's publication, with its dozens of contributors and a consistently impressive output of intelligent writing? Alexa thinks so! As she says, "it's basically a compendium of drawings, photographs and I'm going to write about a bunch of stuff. It's not a 'style bible', which I keep reading it being reported as. It's more like just imagery I find interesting and it's going to have a sense of humour and I guess more into the things that Rookie has done. I don't really know yet. I haven't written it yet." She better get cracking, seeing as it's set for a September 2013 release date.
One thing's for sure, Alexa is a pretty cool illustrator, as well as a fashion advice-giver, so we can expect the book to look pretty. If her past drawings are an indication for what's to come, the book will feature dinosaurs, bears and sugar skulls.
