Alexander Wang (Unofficially) Confirmed at Balenciaga

We reported on rumours earlier today that Alexander Wang was set to fill Nicolas Ghesquière's position at Balenciaga. Nicolas announced his departure from the French fashion house this month after holding post as Creative Director since 1997. Now WWD says that Sir Wang will indeed become the label's successor, despite there not yet being an official announcement.
Alexander's own label has become synonymous with New York cool, carving out a niche for his no-bullshit sleek athleticism and gaining a name for himself through cult bags like the omnipresent Brenda, Diego and Rocco. Balenciaga, on the other hand, has taken on a more baroque quality, so it will be interesting to see how this pairing unfolds if it eventuates. It will also be interesting to see how Alexander (a veritable spring chicken at under 30) would manage heading up one of the best label's in the world as well as his own label. That said, Nicolas himself was 25 when he began his tenure at Balenciaga.
UPDATE [3 December 2012]: Alexander Wang is now officially confirmed as the new Creative Director of Balenciaga.
