Alicia Silverstone and Amy Heckerling Reunite

For a vampire film also starring Krysten Ritter.
Krysten Ritter & Alicia Silverstone

90s mega-babe and vegan poster girl Alicia Silverstone* has once again teamed up with Amy Heckerling of Clueless fame, to bring us a tale of two vampire gal-pals (the other one’s Krysten Ritter), trying to find romance in the hustle slash bustle of New York City. Not in a Carrie way. More in a co-starring Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Richard Lewis and Sigourney Weaver kind of awesome way. We’re lolling already!

Silverstone and Heckerling recently spoke about their new film project Vamps at a preview screening, with another co-star Wallace Shawn, aka Mr Hall in Clueless or perhaps even better known as the “inconceivable!” bro from The Princess Bride. It’s a good thing they invited him too, or they would have missed out on some pearls of wisdom such as, "There are people wandering the streets who are very, very poor. In most of the United States, poor people are rather heavy. In Detroit, they are as poor as you would see in India or other places where people are starving."

Heckerling, who also directed such classics as Fast Times at Ridgemont High and the more-than-slightly disturbing yet culturally accepted Look Who’s Talking movies, wrote Vamps before watching a single episode of True Blood, so don’t even go there girlfriend. As for Twilight, Heckerling says, “I just don't like when they have vampires outside [in the daylight] and they sparkle and seem so fey. Daylight, that's got to be a complete no-no, otherwise you might as well have some other kind of monster.” We hear you A-Heckz.

Don’t expect these blood-sucking honeys to be repelled by a crucifix though. The movie employs the Star of David, as its less-commonly-used weapon of choice. No kvetching here!

* No mention was made of the recent news that Alicia Silverstone enjoys feeding her baby pre-chewed food. Yeah, like a bird.

PS: Until we get Vamps on our screens, watch is some of Heckerling's better work since Clueless, starring the always brilliant Fred Armisen:
