Chanel gets Catty
Cats are more fashionable than dogs.
Cats versus dogs: the perennial debate. When it comes to fashion, though, cats are clearly ahead of the pack. United Bamboo, Lanvin and Miu Miu have had kitty fever for years. More recently, Anna Sui sent her models down the runway in cat hats; Riccardo Tisci's Givenchy collection was completely panther-centric, and included both caps with cat ears and fur-covered cat-eye specs. Alexander McQueen's design assistant Laura Edwards has chosen Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman outfit as her favourite fashion film moment and Grace Coddington loves cats so much that she wrote a book about them. And did anyone ever work out who was responsible for this fiasco?
The fashion feline fixation shows no signs of abating if the first (official) image from the new Chanel campaign is anything to go by. Shot by Karl Lagerfeld and styled by ex Vogue Paris editrix Carine Roitfeld, it 8 Freja Beha Erichsen crouched in a photo booth in a cat costume - albeit a quilted leather one. Check out more images from the campaign, which were leaked a while back, here.
