Balenciaga On Why They Love Wang

"We wanted... someone who could understand the digital world and the direction of fashion and retail tomorrow."

Alexander Wang has indeed been appointed the Creative Director at Balenciaga. Now that the rumours are no longer rumours, enriching insights have surfaced explaining why Mr. Wang is The Chosen One. While the reception of the news may be divisive among individuals, Balenciaga's CEO Isabelle Guicho stands certain that Alexander is ever-deserving of his new role. And her opinion is surely kind of important, right?

"We wanted someone with global thinking, a citizen of the world, and someone who could understand the digital world and the direction of fashion and retail tomorrow. It will be a new vision; a new understanding of the brand. The heritage of Balenciaga is so big. Just a part of it has been exploited, but obviously not all of it," she told WWD, adding, "Designers are now nomadic people. He will be one of those nomads."

François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Balenciaga's parent company PPR, also said, "Wang will use his creativity and his own research to reinterpret and immortalize the distinctive, modern and extremely innovative style imposed by Cristóbal Balenciaga."

So hush now haters and give the man some room. Between Balenciaga and his namesake label, we're excited to see how he navigates these high-pressure waters.
