Boardrum 11/11/11

A fittingly astronomical performance on this day of days.

It has long been claimed that 11/11/11 is a powerful day, marking the alignment of three elevens for the first time in a century. Some may believe the multitude of prophecies about the 11:11 phenomenon, concerning spirit guardians and supernatural happenings. Others think there's nothing strange about the date, and attribute all the hype to the mere tendency of the human brain to recognise numerical patterns. Either way, at least there's a trashy horror movie to mark the occasion.

If experimental rock is more to your taste, you can head to Byron Bay to hear 'Japanoise' experimentalists Boredoms continue their tradition of annual drum-circle performances, called 'BoaDrum'. Historically, BoaDrum has fallen on the one day in the year where all three dates align (so, 9/9/9, 10/10/10, and 11/11/11 for this year). If you're not sure what BoaDrum is, think a circle of 111 (go figure) drummers lead by Boredoms themselves, bashing their hearts out. Earplug sellers would make an absolute fortune. Can't picture it? Here's a video from Melbourne's 2010 BoaDrum.

Participating dummers for this year include Hella's Zach Hill, Hisham Bharoocha, Jeremy Hyman (formerly of Ponytail), Butchy Fuego of Pit Er Pat, and Mat Watson.

So, What will they do in 2013 when there's no 13th month to correspond with the 13th day? Given the bands innate unpredictability, it's anyone's guess.
