Carla Bruni is in Labour
The ex-supermodel takes our award for chicest First Lady.
Reports have surfaced in the last 24 hours that Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has gone into labour with her first child by French president Nicholas Sarkozy. We hear rumours that she is pushing out her progeny in a custom-made Dior couture hospital gown designed by the disgraced John Galliano. (Please note that we made that up but imagine. It would totally have a peplum). With lots of international pregnancy news at the moment - Beyonce, namely - we're excited for an actual birth on the world stage (not literally. Ew).
Boy or girl, baby Bruni is going to be one chic toddler and might even take Suri Cruise's place as best dressed miniature human. Carla has dialled down the makeup since her '90's supermodel heyday and is now celebrated for her sophisticated and glamourous take on politician's-wife-dressing, especially skilled in working a low heel or flat with consideration of her husband's short stature. As much as we can appreciate Samantha Cameron in Jonathan Saunders, and the widely publicised sartorial choices of Michelle Obama, we are tempted to give the prize for effortless First Lady elegance to Carla - she works it like only the French can. How long til you think she'll be back in shape and wearing cinched-waist Dior?
