children of the corn
Dior Homme's new AW11 short 'The Wanderer' is an austere and eerie offering.
Titled The Wanderer, the video campaign to compliment Dior Homme's Autumn / Winter 2011 collection is an austere and eerie offering. Starring Danish model Victory 'best-bone-structure-in-the-whole-freaking-world' Nylander, the short is set in a cornfield next to a highway, with images of deserted suburbia thrown in to contribute to the creep factor. To the soundtrack of a prosaic violin drone and an overpowering billowing wind, the film depicts Nylander doing his best Ian Curtis / exorcism impression and narrating in what we assume is his natural tongue.
Silhouettes are draped and dramatic, with wide-brimmed hats and capes pointing to Puritanism dress. Conceived by Dior Homme's artistic director Kris Van Assche and shot by fashion photographer Willy Vanderperre, one could be mistaken for thinking that this is actually the trailer for a European art house slasher film, but with incredible costume. A series of nine photographs accompanies the video.
