Christopher Kane Named Creative Director of Balenciaga
So says French publication Le Nouvel Observateur.
French publication Le Nouvel Observateur has reported that Christopher Kane will replace Nicolas Ghesquière as Balenciaga's Creative Director. Christopher was previously mentioned as a top runner for the job, along with Alexander Wang, Erdem, Joseph Altuzarra, and even Olivier Zahm's lover/baby mumma Natacha Ramsey, who has been Nicolas' first assistant for some years.
Balenciaga is yet to make an official statement, but we're hoping this news turns out to be true. Christopher's show has long been one of the highlights of London Fashion Week and he is a favourite amoung the people who count — namely Anna Wintour and Kanye West. One person who might not be so thrilled is Donatella Versace as Christopher would inevitably have to give up his role at Versus.
UPDATE [20 November 2012]: The rumours are false — Christopher Kane is not heading to Balenciaga. A spokesperson for Christopher Kane told WWD that the rumours were "unfounded." Meanwhile, Balenciaga's CEO Isabelle Guichot said that the fashion house has a "short list" of potential designers set to fill Nicolas' shoes, who is himself rumoured to have his sights set on launching his own namesake label. But as we all learnt from the Galliano/Dior Scandal of 2011, filling such a revered position takes time. A lot of time.
