Cindy Sherman for M.A.C

Art chameleon Sherman isn't too haute to kick it with a populist beauty brand.

Cindy Sherman is no stranger to collaboration. The conceptual artist recently teamed up with creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere for a six-image photo series where she posed as different characters (the fashion victim, the aging doyenne, the delirious clubber) in head-to-toe Balenciaga. The series was launched at an impossibly hip event at the fashion powerhouse's Chelsea flagship, where not only Ghesquiere and Sherman were in attendance, but model/neo-country chanteuse Karen Elson cameo-ed and strummed her latest tunes. The collaboration didn't end there - the Fall Winter 2010 Balenciaga runway collection included printed shirts and dresses featuring quotes appropriated from Sherman reviews and interviews.

Turns out M.A.C Cosmetics is a fan of the creative collab, too. The brand has partnered with some pretty out-there characters in the past - think Hello Kitty, Wonder Woman, Barbie and Ricky Martin. We're just glad that art chameleon Sherman isn't too haute to kick it with a populist beauty brand after her stint with Balenciaga because the ad campaign for the just-announced Cindy Sherman for M.A.C collection looks amazing. Sherman has taken M.A.C's motto 'Power of Transformation' to the extreme, creating three quirky characters using three very different colour schemes. Thanks to M.A.C's powders, liners, lipsticks and glosses, Sherman is variously an 'off-kilter Hitchcock heroine', a 'fresh corpse, Caravaggio Portrait' and a 'Park Avenue Plastic Surgery Maven'.
