Cut Copy Up for Grammy

The Australian band has been nominated for Best Dance / Electronic Album.

Late last year it was announced that Cut Copy had received a Grammy nomination for 2011's album Zonoscope. This is kind of a big deal. Originally hailing from Melbourne, the electro-dance outfit have been releasing records since 2004 but really rose to fame in 2008 with In Ghost Colours. This album went #1 on the Australian charts, and also provided the unofficial song of the year — 'Hearts on Fire'. If you knew the meaning of the word 'fun' back in 2008, you would certainly be familiar with this song:

While they've been permanent fixtures on the local indie / dance scene for a while now, they've only recently exploded in the US with the slightly more guitar-driven Zonoscope, which also nabbed them an ARIA last year for Best Dance Release on home soil. Touring The States last year and also playing Coachella, Cut Copy won over an American audience. Included in the top five finalists for the Grammys' Best Dance / Electronic Album category, Cut Copy is up again Skrillex, Deadmau5, David Guetta and Robyn. If Cut Copy takes away 2012's title, that would be super awesome, but even if they don't, just being nominated for a freaking Grammy is kind of like a prize in itself. Congratulations Cut Copy, you bunch of legends! While we wait to hear the verdict at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards held tomorrow, check out the video for 'Need You Now' from Zonoscope :
