david lynch directs duran duran
The artfully coiffed David Lynch to film Duran Duran gig.
Forget Girls on Film, this time it's Duran Duran's turn to take their place in front of the camera lens. Not just any camera lens, mind, but that of highly acclaimed maverick director David Lynch who will capture the pouting masculine charms of Simon Le Bon and company when they hit the stage at LA's Mayan Theatre for a live webcast.
Part of the American Express Unstaged webseries, which sees legendary directors filming their favourite bands (past forays have included Terry Gilliam with Arcade Fire), die-hard Duran fans will be able to catch the show in real time on the band's Vevo channel. True to his unorthodox directorial methods, you can expect Lynch's coverage to stray from the usual audience panning and emotive close-ups of your typical concert video. Instead, he says it will be "a world of experimentation and hopefully some happy accidents." Judging by Lynch's trailer for the show, it's unlikely we could expect anything less from the man that brought us Twin Peaks.
Unfortunately, only the most ardent Antipodean fans will be tempted to catch the live feed ? the Birmingham lads hit the stage on Thursday 24 March at 2am EDST, but maybe the unbridled charisma of the band in their video invitation will be enough to keep you out of bed.
Of course, all of this may leave you thinking, "Duran Duran and David Lynch? What a thoroughly unlikely pairing!" Actually, they have a bit more in common than you'd expect, namely their impeccably styled hairdos. In fact, one may call Lynch's mop his greatest oeuvre to date. One astute observer has noted that the director's 'dos owe a lot to the works of great artists like Van Gogh, Monet and Cezanne.
