Post-punk homoerotic soft porn. It sounds like something you might read about in a sociology textbook. Thankfully, it's not. It's the (somewhat convoluted) name of Ellery's Spring 2011 collection. Held in Kym Ellery's hometown of Perth and with Oyster cover girl Lara Bingle seated front row, the collection was classic Ellery - structured shoulders, embellished metallic fabrics, sheer maxi-skirts and flared pants. Chic and sharp, with more than a glimpse of skin, the collection also featured midriff tops, collared shirt dresses and voluminous tulle skirts.
With a mish-mash name comes a mish-mash of influences. The fox fur colour palette (brown leathers, charcoal blacks, burnt hues and soft neutrals) was apparently inspired by Wes Anderson's film Fantastic Mr Fox. A pair of wide-legged pants was named the 'Roald Dahl' after the British children's author. Vintage surf and baseball culture also influenced the collection - the use of crisp, sporty neoprene was inspired by American baseball heroes Joe DiMaggio and Babe Ruth, while Best Coast's lo-fi surf rock provided a runway soundtrack.
