Exclusive Interview: Miss Piggy for MAC
I go for an elegant look that says 'Hey, look at me — I'm out on a date with Kermit and you're not!'
Muppet-mania continues to grow, with movies, music and now make-up collaborations all adding fuel to the flames. To celebrate the holiday season and impending release of The Muppets movie, self-confessed 'frog-o-phile' Miss Piggy has teamed up with MAC to release an exclusive three-piece collection, complete with an Eye Shadow in Miss Piggy Pink. The limited-edition collection, which can only be bought online, also includes a Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack and a full false eyelash set. We caught up with the "cinema and television superstar nonpareil" herself:
Oyster: You have been in the spotlight for nearly 40 years and yet you don't look a day over 25. What's your beauty secret ? Lotions? Serums? Botox?
Miss Piggy: You bet! Lotions! Serums! Botox! Spackle! Duct Tape! You name it, I use it. Even though I am naturally beautiful, I believe in using every means at moi's disposal to improve, enhance and otherwise fabulasize moiself. As my stylist always says: "What's the point of looking in the mirror if you can't surprise yourself?"
Out of the three-piece collection that you're releasing with MAC, which is your favourite?
Oh, it's so difficult to select one item from the collection as moi's favourite. It's like trying to pick my favourite diamond necklace or my favourite pair of overpriced shoes! Why choose? Take them all, n'est ce pas? However for the sake of your question I'll chose Pink Eye Shadow. Nothing brings out moi's natural beauty like pink eye-shadow, especially when accessorized with an adoring frog.
How would you do your makeup if you were going out on a date with Kermit?
Surprisingly, everything I wear and all my make-up goes well with green. It's so gauche to clash with one's frog, don't you agree? I go for subtle tones, an elegant look that says "Hey, look at me, I'm out on a date with Kermit and you're not!"
What are some essentials that you always keep in your make-up bag?
Well, of course, I have my complete collection from MAC (after all, if moi's name is on it, it must be absolutely fantastique!) And lavender sharpies which are great for autograph signing? and emergency eyebrow touch-up. But for anything more than a quick fix, I have a pit crew of make-up artists on 24-hour call.
Would you ever consider flaunting some Gaga-esque makeup, or is that too extreme?
I adore Lady Gaga, especially when I learned that the Kermit neck wrap she wore was made out of faux frog. I think Lady Gaga's make-up is perfect for her, but I like to be slightly more subdued. (For instance, I never wear make-up that sets off the metal detector at the airport.) Other than that, anything goes!
Does mixing your love life and work life put a strain on your relationship with Kermit?
Not at all. Our love life and our work life is all part of one grand continuum of pleasing moi. How could that create a strain?
Over the years you have established yourself as a style icon; what fashion advice would you give to a budding fashionista?
Two thoughts for every fashionista to live by! First, remember if it's expensive and he's paying? it fits! And second, never ever wear any dress that makes it impossible to enter a room without turning sideways. Other than that, go for it, sister!
The red carpet is notorious for wardrobe malfunctions. Have you ever been victim to one such malfunction?
Moi doesn't "do" malfunctions, wardrobe or otherwise. If something that looks like a wardrobe malfunction happens to moi, it was intentional ? and probably for publicity purposes. We divas are tres clever that way.
Can you see Anna Wintour wearing your MAC make-up line anytime soon?
Oh yes, I can! Anna and I are very close. And since moi's stint at Vogue Paris in moi's hit new movie The Muppets, she and I have so much in common. So if moi looks exquisite in these cosmetics, I'm sure Anna will look fabulous, too. I must call and remind her to try them? You don't happen to have her direct dial number, do you?
