The US of A has a lot to learn about our humble island-continent. Apart from coming to terms with the fact that we actually don't use kangaroos as a regular form of transport, Australian industries abound in potential for flourishing partnerships.
G'day USA happens once a year and focuses on the best business, tourism, academia and arts Australia has to offer. As part of the initiative, five of Australia's most talented designers were given the opportunity to present their collections to New York's best fashion editors, stylists and buyers. Presented by the Woolmark the 'Australian Five' ? including Christopher Esber, Fernando Frisoni, Kym Ellery, Magdalena Velevska and Michael Lo Sordo ? sought to create lasting ties between the Australian and American fashion industries.
Above all, G'day USA provides a chance to show that Australians have a fashion sense that incorporates more than just flannelette shirts and ugg boots. Here's hoping for more great Australian-US reciprocity, along the lines of In-n-Out Burger and a constant stream of stellar hip-hop music.
