Exclusive: Rachel Rutt x Ryan Kenny x The Eleventh Hour Video

Just like honey...

Earlier this year we had photographer Ryan Kenny tail Rachel Rutt throughout Fashion Week (not a bad gig if you ask us!), and now the pair have united once more for a short video to accompany The Eleventh Hour's SS12/13 'Ceremony' collection.

The short film is a dreamy minute-and-a-half of Rachel meandering about, gazing at nothing in particular, and just being generally babin', with some Jesus and Mary Chain to nod along to. We caught up with the designer, Anne Tu.

Leesa Gallaher: You designed for Kirrily Johnston and Preen before launching The Eleventh Hour, was it a daunting transition from designing for someone else to helming your own label?
Anne Tu: Not at all. If anything, I think working for Kirrily Johnston and Preen helped in developing my skills and built up my confidence as a designer. I'm fortunate that my roles for both Kirrily and Preen were quite hands on — I worked on all aspects of the business ranging from production to design. When I was ready to launch my own label, I had the knowledge and contacts to do so.

So what are some of the inspirations behind this new collection?
The starting point was drawn from an array of Eastern references, particularly customs and rituals of traditional Japanese wedding ceremonies and the cultural dress of the Chinese Miao tribe, all of which are subtly referenced throughout out the collection. I loved the intricate construction of origami and I worked on pleating fabric to give the garment shape and form.

Rachel Rutt is a mega-babe — she was our Oyster Daily girl last September. What was it like on set with her and Ryan?
Anne: I love Rachel's look! She's an absolute stunner. It's been our second time working together on a shoot — the first time being was my SS11/12 collection, 'Melt'. She has such a care free spirit and brings great energy to the set. I love working with her. Ryan is insanely talented. He has such a great eye for fashion and had a clear vision of what he wanted to capture behind the scenes from the get-go. We all worked really well together. There was an amazing vibe and the shoot was super fun and relaxed.

The backing track features The Jesus and Mary Chain, are you a fan of theirs? What's on your playlist at the moment?
The backing track was actually Ryan's suggestion! I had a few other songs in mind but 'Just Like Honey' is a killer track and it set the mood perfectly with the video, so it just made sense to go with it. My playlist choices are always so eclectic. At the moment I’m listening to Beach house, Purity Ring and Blood Orange (who we interviewed for #98).

As a fellow Sydney local, do you have any favorite haunts you'd like to share?
There are so many great places in Sydney that it differs for me every week but a notable favorite of mine would be Kitchen by Mike. The space is amazing and the food is great as well.
