Exclusive: Richard Nicoll x Topshop Bridal Interview
There's (mercifully) not a meringue dress in sight!
Richard Nicoll has teamed up with Topshop once again, this time with a new bridal collection, 'Tie The Knot!'. The seven-piece collection features sweet slip dresses, a lace t-shirt dress and a floor-length number — all of which could be worn to any formal occasion (for those who are not getting hitched anytime soon). This is the first time that both the designer label and high street brand have explored bridal wear, so we thought we'd sit down with Richard and give him a wedding pop quiz.
Alice Cavanagh: How many weddings have you been to?
Richard Nicoll: Too many — I'm an expert.
Which one was the most memorable and why?
My own, for obvious reasons.
Which was the worst and why?
I haven’t been to any bad ones.
Have you ever crashed a wedding?
No, but I’d like to have crashed Ice T and Coco’s.
What do you think is the ultimate wedding song?
The Flamingos ‘I only have eyes for you’.
Whose wedding dress would you most like to design (can be living or otherwise)?
Florence Welch: imagine how crazy it would be!
If you’d had the chance to design Kate Middleton’s dress what would you have created?
A lace t-shirt dress, much like the Topshop one in the range.
If a bride doesn’t want to wear white what should she wear?
Black, or any other colour.
Do you think the bride needs to be better looking than the bridesmaids?
Yeah of course: it’s not about competitive friends upstaging you.
What are your thoughts on the following:
A drunk bride?
I think that’s fine, actually.
A smoking bride?
She should be smoking hot.
Both of the above...
I think it’s her day, so she should do exactly as she pleases.
Why do you think weddings still matter?
Romance is not dead, I guess.
Do you believe in happily ever after?
Yes, of course, for the lucky few.
