Exclusive: Therese Rawsthorne Ensemble AW12 Lookbook
Super comfortable but respectable fancy-basics.
Too often I think, 'if only loungewear were an appropriate genre of dressing for the public sphere'. Perhaps this same thought crossed the mind of Therese Rawsthorne when designing the AW12 collection for her fancy-basics diffusion line, Therese Rawsthorne Ensemble. But do not be mistaken: there are no slobbish sweat pants or hoodies here. What remains, though, is comfort and ease, meaning these clothes are good for watching reality shows and are even better for, you know, leaving the house and doing respectable things.
The classic shirts that TR Ensemble has gained a following for are given nifty little twists this winter like cut-out detailing, frayed mandarin collars and button-up flap pockets. Although their design might mimic your boyfriend's, they are decidedly feminine in their fabrication, crafted from soft, thin cotton to hint ever-so-subtly at undergarments (visible nipples on a man ? not so great).
For AW12, there's also a new focus on denim with seven styles from indigo to ink-black. Taking out the hard work and commitment of wearing-in stiff new jeans (I'm lazy, okay!), each pair has been silicon wash treated from 8 ounce denim which is another way of saying they're actually comfortable. The denim boiler suit in long and short versions, as seen below, are an unexpected love.
The biggest collection yet from Therese Rawsthorne Ensemble, we also think it's the best. Check out some of our favourite images from the lookbook, which has a Patti Smith, James Dean kinda thing going on:
