George Gorrow leaves Ksubi

The end of an era.
George Gorrow with Erin Wasson at Rosemount Fashion Week 2007

Today marks the end of an era for cult Australian fashion label Ksubi, as co-founder George Gorrow is leaving the brand, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. Ksubi’s beginnings are somewhat unconventional — the brand has been built from the ground up by a pair of guys with no formal fashion training, who met during a bar fight in LA, bonded over a common dissatisfaction for the denim market at the time and sent rats down the runway in one of their early runway presentations. When you look at it like that, it is kind of amazing that Ksubi has grown up to be as we know it today.

The brand that epitomises Bondi style has managed to ride the wave of ups and downs over the years and still somehow landed on top (and lets not forget the theft of $1 million of its wares earlier this year). Despite going into liquidation in 2010 — and being saved by Quicksilver Europe founder Harry Hodge — the brand kept producing kick-ass collections over the last few years. We loved their runway show at Fashion Week this year, and their latest AW12 collection has been picked up by UK department stores Harvey Nicholls and Harrods in the UK.

In light of this success, George said of his depature, ‘It’s not my nature to leave something on a low…so I thought what better time to leave that on a high?”

We are very sad to see George go and can’t help but wonder what the future will hold for Ksubi.
