Givenchy Pre-Fall 12 Lookbook

A theme's been running through Riccardo Tisci's collections for Givenchy for the part few seasons: animals. He's let loose rottweilers, panthers, and now, horses. The Givenchy pre-fall 12 collection carries on the Bettie Page influence of Givenchy Fall 2011, but meets, this time with a 1970's equestrian feel. Knee-high, sheath-covered riding boots are pulled up over jodhpur-like pants while accessories include pony-hair baseball caps and antler-shaped necklaces. The collection combines sport (a source of inspiration for everyone from Alexander Wang to Isabel Marant) and couture; utilitarian shirt dresses and asymmetrical golf-style sweaters are mixed in with buttery-soft leathers, crocodile skin and mink. There's a mix of masculine and feminine, too; the coats, which come in khaki, brown, and colour-blocked red and beige, have hard, structured lines, which contrasts nicely with the fluid silhouettes of the chiffon blouses and silk maxi-dresses.
The collection also 8 tried and tested Givenchy motifs. There's a sweater with a barred-teeth dog on the front, and tropical blooms have been spliced together with other archival prints, then worked into graphic dresses and skirts. In one look, a bird of paradise flower adds colour to a fringed beige scarf; the orange is seen again in leather gloves and a tunic dress trim. But Tisci hasn't been horsing around — the collection might be something of a 'best-of' retrospective, but it still brings something new, exciting and totally wearable to the table.
