Givenchy x H&M

It's rumoured that they'll collaborate on a collection next year.
Givenchy Haute Couture SS12

In the past, Versace's line for H&M saw sell-out success. Marni flew off the racks. Maison Martin Margiela, released last week, burst the blogsophere, and if you're lucky you might still find a few pieces in store. The latest high end designer rumoured to collaborate with the Swedish megastore is none other than Givenchy.

The source of this potential partnering is, however, dubious. The Fashion Industry Confessions Tumblr posted, "Rumours straight from the Givenchy head quarters have it they will collaborate with H&M next year." H&M issued a statement saying "we won't comment on rumours."

The French fashion house is known for its INCREDIBLE couture and ornate romantic/gothic aesthetic. So will Riccardo Tisci's taste translate into a mainstream market and the fabrication restrictions that come with this? Perhaps he'd be better off leaving the fringing and beading and focusing on his street style star pieces — printed t-shirts and sweaters. We're imagining something along the lines of his Watch The Throne tour merchandise (below). We'd be pretty bummed out if there weren't a few rottweilers thrown in for good measure too.

The rumour has been met with mixed reactions. "If Givenchy collabs with H&M in 2013 that has to be what the Mayans were talking about something disastrous would happen," @Remdelarem tweets, while @TOMFORDISMYDAD says, "Givenchy to collaborate with H&M. Poorly made print t-shirts for all." @JHarjette is slightly more excited — "If Givenchy H&M actually happens I will cry and be in serious debt at the same time." We'll have to wait and see.

Never not finding an excuse to post this:

UPDATE [28 November 2012]: The rumours are FALSE! Vogue UK reports that "Givenchy has denied that it is collaborating with H&M on an affordable collection, despite 'false' rumours to the contrary."
