Goosebumps the Movie

You'll be sleeping with the lights on.

Few books encapsulate what it was to be a kid of the nineties like the Goosebumps series. From the the cheesy storylines right down to the textured front covers, the Goosebumps books trigger a whole new kind of nostalgia that will be all the more exacerbated by the release of a Goosebumps movie!

Ever since the creepily-named R.L. Stine created the Goosebumps franchise in 1992, it has since grown to span across multiple media - books, a TV series and computer games. With a knack for getting the creep-factor exactly right, author Stine is no doubt rolling in it, with fans eagerly awaiting the latest instalment.

But why has the movie taken so long, I hear you ask? Producer Neil H Moritz has only recently found a permanent script writer (Darren Lemke), who is supposedly starting from absolute scratch, with the plot being a combination of a number of titles in the series. Here's the theme song, which will probably make you wish you were six years old again.

Although unarguably dripping with entertainment value, the Goosebumps books are somewhat lacking in literary substance. How will R.L. Stine's writing style translate to the big screen? Will it be successful? Will it be scary? But what we're really wondering is: what proportion of the audience on opening night will be 20-3o year olds, seeking to relive their childhoods? If only movie prices were the same as they were in the nineties! (And if only Choose Your Own Adventure would work on film.)
