Hair Transformations

Chloe Sevigny switches to the dark side.

This time last year, Abbey Lee Kershaw embraced the dye and transformed from a brunette to a platinum bombshell. It seems this season, though, it's all about switching to the darkside. At least that's exactly what Chloe Sevigny was channelling when she walked the runway for Kenzo in Paris, sporting her new brunette locks. The Spring Summer 2012 show marked the debut collection for new Kenzo creative directors (and founders of Opening Ceremony), Humberto Leon and Carol Lim. Sevigny, who is a close friend of the design duo and who designs her own line for Opening Ceremony, closed the show, but was barely recognisable in a bright blue jumpsuit and brunette bob. Rumour has it the Big Love actress went dark a couple of months ago for her latest role in the HBO miniseries Hit or Miss, but the Kenzo show was the perfect public outing for her darker tresses. In honour of Sevigny's bold move, we assess some of the best hair transformations of the past year.

Brunette to blonde VS blonde to brunette

Colour me pretty

Colourful hair is making a splash this season. One only needs to glance at runways shows like Thakoon or take note of models like Charlotte Free to notice, but who would make a better ambassador for this trend than Dazed and Confused Fashion Editor, Katie Shillingford? It's ever an exciting moment when new street style photos surface of Katie Shillingford, because every time we see her pretty face, this chameleon is sporting a wild new shade of hair colour. In the past it's been bluey-grey, on her wedding day it was fairyfloss pink (to offset the pale grey of her custom Gareth Pugh dress) and for New York Fashion Week this season it was the limest of lime greens. No matter what the occasion, Katie's got a shade to match - just when you think she's exhausted the colour spectrum, she'll surprise you with something wild.

Dip Dyed

For those of us not game enough to embrace the bright colours all-over, dip dye offers the perfect medium. Kate Bosworth recently stepped out in LA with new teal tips to top off her otherwise blonde bob. Sadly, the tips seemed to be a temporary phase - most likey to console her after splitting with True Blood actor, Alexander Skaarsgard (we would need consoling too!) - but nonetheless, they were a fresh and youthful phase for the 28-year-old actress. It's particularly impressive how she managed to colour coordinate her tips with her chiffon Missoni blouse.
