How Deep is Your Love?

Yesterday, Melbourne director Ariel Kleiman won the prestigious Kodak Discovery Award for his short film 'Deeper than Yesterday', as well as a Petit Rail D'Or at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival 2010. Kleiman's film was so well received that he was awarded two of only three awards that apply to short films.

His film details the violent mind-sets of a group of Russian submariners submerged for three months. Shot on a decommissioned submarine off Western Port Bay, 'Deeper than Yesterday' was the young director's final piece as part of his studies at the Victorian College of the Arts. The film was written, directed and produced with long-time collaborators Sarah Cyngler and Benjamin Gilovitz.

Kleiman is the second Australian director to have a film screened at Semaine de la Critique and judged by the panel of elite industry critics. His work will now begin a global tour, and is soon to be shown at the Sydney Short Film Festival.
