You know you're onto a good thing when both the Queen of the Commonwealth and the Queen of style are willing to endorse you, be it with a Royal Warrant or a spin about the muddied fields of one of the biggest music festivals in the world. Hunter, purveyors of fine waterproof footwear, make wellies that are as much a fashion statement as they are practical. With a design that has gone largely unchanged since the first Hunter Original emerged in 1955, the green wellington boot has become an icon of British heritage style.
Every Hunter Original is composed of 28 individual parts, meticulously assembled by hand to create a boot that is as much at home on the farm as at a festival. In 2011, Hunter are introducing a new range of styles and colours to coordinate with your preferred wet-weather attire. Hitting our shores this season are boots in jewel green and cobalt, alongside the more traditional red, black and original green.
Hunter wellies have been the unofficial uniform of the festival circuit since Kate Moss first hit Glastonbury in a pair of Originals way back when she and Pete Doherty were still making tabloid headlines. Since then, pretty much anyone that deserves the title of 'it-girl' has slipped into a pair. Although this year's festival had its fair share of sunny spells, plenty of Hunters were seen on the fields. Here are some of our favourite looks!
Of course, in Australia's warmer, dryer climes, the humble gumboot seems a rather unconventional choice of footwear. But if fashion has taught us anything, its that practicality has no place in everyday life and, with festival season coming up, it's probably a good idea to make like Kate and get your feet into a pair of wellies. And hey, if the dry weather prevails, you can always save your Hunters for a rainy day.
