Inside MBFWA: Talisa Sutton from Badlands

The blogger will be creating illustrations and collages of her favourite Fashion Week shows.
Talisa Sutton from Badlands

Talisa Sutton and her boyfriend Rohan Peterson work on a blog together called Badlands. Both graphic designers and illustrators, they create sweet collages and just generally have impeccable taste. Talisa kindly let us into her Coveteur-ready home where we quietly admired her lounge room visual merchandising skills and spoke to her about what she'll be doing at Fashion Week this year.

Ingrid Kesa: What song describes your state of mind right now in terms of Fashion Week?
Talisa Sutton: Wow, that’s tricky… I have been listening to a lot of Lana Del Ray, she is sort of my favorite at the moment. I like listening to 'Video Games' while I paint, because I think that it’s quite relaxing so… hopefully this will be pretty chilled this year.

Do you have any pre-Fashion Week rituals?
This year, I am working with my friend Hannah from Capture the Castle which is another blog and were going to be covering the shows together. I am going to put together some illustrations and collages so for me it's just meant stocking up on materials and making sure I have all my paints and everything ready to go but, there’s nothing else I generally do.

Will she be doing show reviews?
Yeah, she will do all of the reviews and I will do all the image accompaniments. I am excited.

What are three things you just can’t live without during Fashion Week?
My phone, sadly, because it’s got my whole life in it in the planner. I always have sunglasses and lip balm, the three basics.

What is your favorite thing about Fashion Week?
I just really love seeing all the new collections and I really appreciate all the work the designers put in, they're always so amazing.

What is your least favorite thing?
Usally the very early starts and the late finishes. I am sure you know from experience, a day can go on for about fourteen hours so sometimes it’s a bit exhausting.

How will you be celebrating once the week is over?
I was just thinking, I don’t know if I will be celebrating. I'll probably just catch up on all the uni work I’ve  missed, maybe I’ll go out for a drink with some friends — that’s a better answer [laughs]. I'll celebrate by doing more work!

Is there one show or a few shows that you really want to see this year? Who do you think will be good?
My partner Rohan actually designed Gary Bigeni's invite. From what I have seen of the inspiration, it just looks amazing so I’m really excited to see that. Gail Sorronda is always a favorite for her show pieces, I just think they’re beautiful. I guess in terms of shows, Romance always puts on such an amazing setup, it’s always quite theatrical, so I always look forward to seeing them.
