"I'm not very good at music. I'm good at partying."
Andrew W.K. loves partying. No, seriously, he LOVES partying. This whole interview is about how much he loves partying. He came out of the womb partying and he will die partying. The musician come motivational speaker come gameshow host is currently in Australia for his 'One-Man-Party-Tour' and is playing tonight at Melbourne's Corner Hotel. You know what to do (hint: it starts with 'P' and ends with 'arty').
Melissa Kenny: As far as I'm aware Andrew, you're the ultimate party dude. Did you party last night?
Andrew W.K.: Yes. I partied last night, the night before, and all the nights before that into infinity, plus one.
I also read somewhere on the webs that you're known for your nosebleeds. Is this because you pick it? Or partying 24/7?
Of course I enjoy picking my nose, and I love to eat all the mucous and crusted dead blood and filth. That's the same as partying. Nose picking is partying.
Your songs focus on common themes of good old fashioned fun, freedom, liberation. You're obviously down with fun times! If fun and partying are your favourite things, what are your least favourite things? What obligations do you dread?
The only thing I don't like is not partying. Everything else is awesome.
If you could build your own dream band of anyone in the world ever, who would you pick?
I already have my dream band and I'm in it. We're playing a show tonight. We're called Andrew W.K. and we have four guitarists, bass, drums, an amazing lady on vocals and dancing, and me. I get to yell and bash on the piano... And party.
How did you initially get into music? Will you brag to me a little about the extent of your music capacity?
I'm not very good at music. I'm good at partying.
So you and your buddies opened a music venue/nightclub in NYC a few years back. What kind of stuff could we expect to find if we paid it a visit?
The venue is called Santos Party House. Obviously, you can expect partying.
Could you please paint us a picture of an average day in your life? I wanna get in your head.
There is no average day, beyond lots and lots and lots of partying.
You're also something of a self-help/ motivational speaker which is damned awesome. What is the personal Andrew W.K philosophy, and if you don't have one, can you please coin one right now?
