London Fashion Week Backstage: Christopher Kane
Graphics and embellished sorbets.
Like with most collections this week Christopher Kane started with white. Using the perfectly summery shade (if you have a tan, at least), Christopher forgoed a shift dress for more intriguing styles— a leather embroidered jacket and matching skirt, a clean white, tailored suit, a strapless bow-busted evening dress. The colour then followed and it was a sherbet-hued extravaganza.
Bows were a running feature throughout the collection and in addition to using them for a print, Christopher worked them into draping, and accessories — bow-belts accentuated the waist, the focus of his silhouette this season. While the collection was super girly he added in some industrial elements, such as what appeared to be PVC cutout overlay on some of the chiffon dresses as well as electrical tape. These tougher elements were mixed back in with super sweet powder puff dresses that were embellished with jewels and lace applique. It was kind of like prom queen meets a craft corner, and we mean that in a good way.
