Look Inside Daphne Guinness' Apartment
The beer heiress' NYC home is on the market for $14 million.
Beer heiress and former wife of a Greek shipping magnate, Daphne Guinness has put her Fifth Avenue New York apartment on the market for $14 million dollars. The eccentric and couture-obsessed style icon has filtered her personal style (with the help of interior designer Daniel Romualdez) into her home's decor. There's a modern day hall of mirrors complete with red carpet to be walked every time you enter or exit the apartment; so necessary. The apartment also has four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, a library, artworks by Dave LaChapelle, Damien Hirst and Nobuyoshi Araki, wallpapers by Florence Broadhurst and a slightly oriental feel with Chinoiserie paper screens and lots and lots of pot plants in blue and white Chinese pots. The property also has views of The Metropolitan Museum and Central Park and is located in the Stanhope building, which provides its residents with a 24hour doorman, concierge, wine specialist, private La Palestra Spa, breakfast lounge, library and gym, all for the mandatory cost of $17, 950 a month (on top of the money you paid to actually purchase the apartment).
Reasons for Guinness' decision to move are unclear; why on earth would you want to? However, it could have something to do with a strained relationship with her downstairs neighbours after they threatened to sue her in 2010 for repeatedly flooding their apartment by leaving her bathtub running and allowing it to overflow into their premises. Allowing this to happen once is an understandable mistake, but several times is testament to Guinness's reputedly vague and slightly odd personality. Either way, it's lucky Daphne's intriguing personality paired with her copious amounts of money provides us with a very interesting apartment to look at.
