Lover AW12 Lookbook
Nic Briand and Susien Chong dabble in the dark side.
Lover dabbles in the dark side for AW12. While there's still an array of those signature feminine lace dresses which have successfully gained designers Nic Briand and Susien Chong a cult following here and abroad, there's also more of a gothic schoolgirl slant with this new collection. Moody teen Lydia Deetz from Tim Burton's Beetlejuice is held up as a source of inspiration - the collection is called 'Lydia' - as is real life moody teen Frances Bean Cobain (we don't know if she's actually moody, but she is a teen). Siouxsie Sioux's glam-goth style is also called on as a source of inspiration.
Peter Pan collars are one of many identifiable traits of the label, this time done in leather. Pleated skirts, high-waisted flares and pretty blouses are other Lover affections, and are indeed present in AW12 because it wouldn't really be a Lover collection without them. But there's unexpected inclusions too, like that plastic-y, cape-y amazing thing, which doesn't immediately strike one as Lover but is instantly loved. Oxblood red and teal are two colours which aren't given nearly enough props, however they have their moment in the spotlight collection, also sitting alongside a dusty mauve and deep navy.
