Maison Martin Margiela x H&M
"The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity," says the house of Margiela.
Maestros of minimalism Maison Martin Margiela are collaborating with retail giant H&M in what will be a fashion partnership made in high-street heaven. The Belgian brand, known for its obscure and often all-white collections, will deliver a capsule line that includes women’s and men’s clothing and accessories. Considering H&M's recent successful collabs with labels like Marni and Versace, the stakes are high.
If the teaser images and video (below) are any indication of what to expect, the hallowed house of Margiela has stayed true to their design roots by creating a range of deconstructed pieces that are très conceptual, albeit with a cheaper price tag. Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Advisor at H&M, said on their website, "Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades. I am so excited by this collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment."
A statement from Margiela — a label whose founding father and namesake left the company in 2009 — said, "We are very happy to present Maison Martin Margiela pieces with H&M, offering a new interpretation of our vision. The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all."
Let's hope Margiela's deconstructed aesthetic can translate into a more mainstream market (considering the limitations of high-street fabrics). November 15 is when it arrives in selected store y'all, so save the date.
