Maison Martin Margiela x Opening Ceremony
Morphing outfits!
Another week, another Opening Ceremony collaboration! The team up between Belgian born Maison Martin Margiela and Opening Ceremony is one clever collaboration that will see the New York retail wonderland embrace a unique capsule of Maison Martin Margiela's threads.
The collection embraces what we like to call morphing, or what they like to call "recuperation, transformation and reinterpretation". Morphing just sounds better. It's not quite like you'd imagine it though ? humans morphing into part-Pegasus, part-eagle, but its still cutting-edge stuff nonetheless. Based on a 3-in-1 concept, select styles throughout the collection will completely transform into separately wearable garments, like Russian dolls shedding their layers.
Inspired by a jacket with detachable lining, this idea will take the 20 original pieces and make them many more. To give you an example, a black quilted leather jacket is made with a water resistant nylon lining in beige, and fastened by buttons. When you unfasten the lining from the leather jacket, the nylon jacket is revealed.
The range will include both women's apparel and accessories, but don't get too excited ? the Fall Winter range will launch globally this September 2011, so you'll have to hold your horses until then.
