MBFWA Review: LIFEwithBIRD

Rachel Rutt, Ollie Henderson, Louise van de Vorst, lilac and mint.

The LIFEwithBIRD show was this morning in the wee hours of the morning (9:30am, but still, that’s early for the fashions) at The Utzon Room in The Opera House. Commemorating the label’s 10th anniversary, our own MBFWA contributor Mark Vassallo oversaw the styling and direction of the show, so needless to say it was quite cool.

Called ‘The Distance Between’, the collection was easy on the eyes — all pretty pastels, lilac and mint, long flowing skirts and loose silky bomber jackets (“a little nonna jacket” as our photographer Ryan Kenny somewhat confusingly described it as). The digital prints were freshhh — using imagery of cliff faces, sea spray, and gum trees — and the models were the best in the business, including Rachel Rutt, Ollie Henderson and Louise van de Vorst (whose face I particularly want to steal and graft onto my own). The designers — Nicholas Van Messner and Bridget McCall — were beaming after the show, and I sincerely hope that they have already downed at least one bottle of champagne (each). They deserve it.

Overheard in the front row:
“Stunning.”
“Gorge.”
“To die for.”

In three words:
Really very pretty.
