Mia Wasikowska is the New Face of Miu Miu
The Australian actress fronts the Spring campaign.
Australia's very own pixie dream girl, Alice in Wonderland star Mia Wasikowska, is the new face of Miu Miu for Spring 2012. Wasikowska replaces model Guinevere van Seenus who featured in the Resort campaign, and 15-year-old Hailee Steinfeld whose Fall 2011 ads caused controversy both because of her age (she was fourteen at the time), and also because she was photographed sitting on train tracks which, according to Britain's Advertising Standards Authority, suggested youth suicide leading to its removal in the UK. The Mia-Miu Miu pairing is a good one, and not just because their names sound cute together and there aren't any train tracks involved. The just-released campaign sees a return to Miu Miu's beautifully glossy studio shots, in which Wasikowska is snapped posing against a blindingly bright background while touting colourful accessories and wearing vintage-inspired floral prints. There's a pop art / Hawaiian shirt feel to the shots with their kitschy colour palette of neon yellow and fuschia pink.
Miu Miu has a knack for tapping into the selling power of actresses on the rise; in the past it's cast Vanessa Paradis, Selma Blair and Lindsay Lohan. Wasikowska is definitely a name (albeit one that is difficult to spell) worth watching.
