michael pitt is the new face of prada
The Boardwalk Empire actor shot by David Sims.
Channeling his best fifties quiff and teddy-boy pout, Boardwalk Empire actor Michael Pitt is the new face of Prada Menswear. The luxury brand's SS12 menswear campaign is shot by the legendary David Sims and 8 Pitt in all manner of fifties-inspired silhouettes, complete with vintage guitar and cravat. According to an old item in Page Six (as reported by Vogue UK) this isn't the first time the actor has been approached to front a Prada campaign. It has been reported that Pitt once declined an offer to be the face of Miu Miu back in 2005; back when Miu Miu still did menswear. Despite reports that the actor is morally anti-fashion and anti-modelling, though, it appears that he has finally come around. Perhaps this has something to do with the influence of his model girlfriend, Jamie Bochert.

Pitt succeeds Tobey Maguire as the face of the brand and he does so in style, putting on his best pout and looking all brooding and sheepish (SWOON). According to a statement released by the company, Pitt was styled to resemble various archetypes of Hollywood's golden age. There is a definite nod to Elvis in there, mixed with a bit of a 'gone-golfing' vibe and just the right amount of bicep-flashing ? to which we are definitely not averse.

The saturated colours, attention to silhouette and subtle creative direction perfectly complement Prada's SS12 womenswear campaign, which offers a similar homage to the fifties era with its Grease-come-Mad Men aesthetic. Featuring a slew of some of the best models around ? Natasha Poly, Meghan Collison, Elise Crombez, Ymre Stiekema and Katryn Kruger ? Steven Meisel is behind the lens. It seems the people over at Prada are in a very retro state of mind and we, for one, are in full support. Two beautiful campaigns full of beautiful people and beautiful clothes. WIN for Prada!
