Michel Gondry Remakes Taxi Driver
In two-minute Swede video.
French director Michel Gondry has done a two-minute remake of Martin Scorsese' 1976 cult film Taxi Driver. The remake falls into the 'Swede' genre that Gondry popularized in his movie Be Kind Rewind, which basically seeks to recreate famous films using DIY methods. In his Taxi Driver take, Gondry appropriately wears a mohawk wig and plays protagonist Travis Bickle himself, while a small child takes on the role of pre-teen prostitute Iris, portrayed originally by a 13-year-old Jodie Foster. Gondry appropriates iconic scenes and through incredibly lo-fi special effects he manages to make the psychological thriller charming and funny.
Gondry's Taxi Driver was first screened earlier this year before the French premiere of Scorsese' latest film Hugo, and now you can watch it below:
