New York Diary: Fairfax Flea Market, LA
Gillian Sagansky heads to LA for the weekend, dies and goes to vintage heaven.
Whenever I go to Los Angeles I always make sure to hit the Melrose Trading Post (better known to locals as the Fairfax Flea Market). I first heard of the market when I was a freshman at USC Cinema School from my good friend, Teen Vogue's Liana Weston, who was wearing the most beautiful black cowboy boots I had ever seen. Determined to find a pair for myself, I went to the market that Sunday and have gone there religiously ever since, always delighted and amused by the knick-knacks and treasures I find there.
When I hit the trading post on Sunday I immediately regretted my decision to pack carry-on for the first time in my life, as my girlfriend and I desperately tried to stuff a heap of clothing into my small bag. The market is a hotspot for designers, stylists, and celebrities who are attracted to the reasonable prices and original finds. The flea market features a variety of vendors, from a candle craftsman to reworked vintage, to 1940s furniture.
The market is every Sunday from 9-5pm on the corner of Melrose and Fairfax. Happy finding!
