Nike's 'Dream Team' Collection

Celebrating 20 years since the USA's victory at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

To commemorate the 20 years since the formation of the legendary, star-studded USA basketball team — known as the 'Dream Team', Nike have released a range inspired by the brand's 1992 collection worn by the team at the Barcelona Olympic games. In these threads, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson won every single game they played by an average of 44 points.

Their story began at a 1992 Olympic qualifying event in Portland, where the Dream Team defeated Cuba 136-57, prompting the Cuban coach to call the USA team a "perfect machine", adding (the now famous phrase) "You can't cover the sun with your finger." Translation — good luck beating these guys, ever. Once in Barcelona, the team were treated like rock stars and hysterical fans lined up outside their hotel. So heightened was their frenzy surrounding them, that they received terrorist death threats. A lot of them.

The Destroyer Jacket is undoubtedly the winner of this collection. The instantly recognisable wool and leather details of the jacket have made it one of Nike Sportswear's signature pieces, and each chenille patch tells a different about the team, from numbers of their 'starting five', to the designed-to-inspire phrase "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave".

Other parts of their epic story are referenced throughout the collection, from the AW77 Hoody, Crew Sweat, Tees and Caps. And if that isn't enough sportswear steez Nike are re-issuing the footwear styles worn by American ballers during the 1992 tournament and beyond. The re-released designs include Nike Air More Uptempo, Nike Shox BB4, Nike Air Force 180, Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 and Nike Air Force 1 Hi.

The Dream Team footwear is available worldwide, however, the apparel collection is only sold in the US, Paris, China and Barcelona, so if you aren't in any off those places you better jump online or on a plane if you want to own a little piece of history.
