Ol' Dirty Bastard's FBI File Revealed Online
Wu-Tang Clan officially linked to thug life.
The official FBI file of Wu-Tang Clan member Ol' Dirty Bastard has been revealed online, care of Rich Jones from hacker website Gun.io. Jones got his hands on the 94-page document by filing for a Freedom of Information Act request with the US government, which he explains is "one of his hobbies." Before the death of Russell Tyreese Jones aka Ol' Dirty Bastard aka ODB in 2004 (caused by an accidental overdose on coke and Tramadol), the rapper thought that the FBI had a hit out on him. "He's been telling friends that somebody is trying to kill him," ODB's cousin Frederick Cuffie told the Village Voice in 1999. "He's been telling me that the CIA and the FBI wants to get him for some reason."
The FBI file links ODB and Wu-Tang to all the hallmarks of thug life - drugs, weapons, murder, car jackings and various other crimes - and states that "once individuals have proved themselves as good and loyal members or associates of the WTC they are offered record contracts to record Rap type music..." So how about that 'hippity hop'?
Rich includes highlights from the document (along with page annotations):
The WTC is heavily involved in the sale of drugs, illegal guns, weapons possession, murder, carjacking and other types of violent crime. [p5]
Connections to the murder of Robert "Pooh" Johnson and Jerome "Boo Boo" Estrella. [p6]
Connection to murder of Ishamael "Hoody" Kourma. [p13]
A shoot-out with the NYPD. [p15]
Arrest for felony possession of body armour. [p16]
Connections to the Bloods Gang. [p17]
Found in possession of large bags full of paper currency. [p40]
Details of his being robbed and shot while staying in the Kingston projects. [p45]
It's probably safe to say that ODB was one crazy motherfucker, and an incredible rapper at that.
Let's just take a moment to remember that ODB was interrupting award ceremonies way before that Kanye guy:
