Oyster #95: Bon Iver

Let Bon Iver and Nabil Elderkin hypnotise you.

Bon Iver will be mesmerising crowds this summer at a string of headlining and festival shows. They will play three (sold out) shows at the Sydney Opera House on March 11, 12 and 13 and will also be leading the charge at Golden Plains.

For Oyster #95, photographer and director Nabil Elderkin shared with us his journey to Iceland to shoot the latest Bon Iver music video (for 'Holocene'). Nabil travelled to the south-east coast of Iceland to film around the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, which lies atop a volcano long due for an eruption — its troublesome neighbour, the (much smaller) Eyjafjallajökull, wreaked havoc last year, ruining the European travel plans of many. The Holocene is the term for the most recent geological era — that which encompasses the development of modern civilisation — and the song examines the point in time when one realises one’s insignificance in the world. Set your dials to otherwordly and get lost in the stunning images below.

And here is the video in full:

Nabil also directed Frank Ocean's 'Swim Good' video, and shot Ocean for Oyster #93. He was also the photographer behind dreamboat Logan Lerman's feature in Oyster #95.

Bon Iver plays Golden Plains festival, Saturday, March 10, 2012 – Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre in Meredith, VIC. Tickets available at goldenplains.com.au.
