Oyster Fashion: Shenay Carey Shot by Renee Carey

'Down The Rabbit Hole'.

The 'Down The Rabbit Hole' shoot was based around the idea of coming back to the self through nature and the elements. We inspired ourselves throughout the day using the sun, water, plants, the flowers, and all the elements of the earth. To be free and careless. Forgetting the pull of the materialistic world. Generally I like to be able to bring a sense of feeling to my photos. When you see it you think, "Yeah, I not only can imagine the place they're at, but I feel it." That's the key.

I got to shoot my sister-in-law Shenay who, being part Aboriginal, has a complete affinity with the earth and the energy it has to offer. Shenay brings such a light to any photo that she's in. Laura May Gibbs, who styled the shoot, and I have a really similar aesthetic, so everything just seemed to fall into place.

The three of us wandered around French's Forest and Narrabeen Lake and ended up finding this giant hole which was about seven feet deep and overlooking this huge valley, that we all decided to climb into. It was pretty hilarious — us three girls getting all dirty and messy in the middle of our shoot. When we got down, there was this beautiful waterfall that we shot at. We felt so far away from Sydney, it was magical. We ended the day at the lake at sunset, running to get the last bit of light for our last look. We just made it.
