Phil Oh (Street Peeper) MBFWA Interview

"Sorry, I’m a little slow today. What was the question again?"

I tried to talk to Phil Oh from Street Peeper all week, but the guy is there one minute and then gone the next. Today I finally spotted him standing in the one spot for more than three seconds so I ran over and sprung an interview on him. He was feeling a little under-the-weather so I appreciated his ability to string enough sentences together to talk to me. He seemed like a cool dude, and he's got really silky hair (in the photo he's the one wearing the red floral shirt).

Ingrid Kesa: How’s your week been?
Phil Oh: It’s been great.

[I look at him waiting for him to say something. He laughs].
Oh, am I meant to say something? [Laughs]. You know, it’s been great. I got some great pictures, I really like the way Australian girls dress [laughs]. Sorry, I’m just [flails arms]. Sorry, I’m a little slow today. What was the question again?

You went out last night, didn’t you?
[His friend yells ‘Yes!’]. Yeah, I went out with Matt Vines and Steve Toal, you know those guys?

Yep, I know them.
We went to this bar called Paper Pines.

Shady Pines — the whiskey bar with dead animals on the walls?
Yeah. It was funny ‘cause I walked in there and it totally looked like Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Has anyone ever said that before?

Well, I’ve never been to Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
They’re into that sort of fetishisation of that era of time, they had a Milwaukee’s Best Beer sign, a whiskey bar, dudes with beards. For some reason it felt like home.

What’s a trend that you’ve noticed this week? One trend that I’ve noticed is people describing things as ‘stunning’.
In terms of fashion?

Anything.
Athletic-wear. There’s a lot of sporty looks. Baseball jackets, baseball caps. But not, like, full sporty looks. They’re mixed in with some high-end designer stuff too.

What’s been your favourite show?
Romance Was Born is always fun, and Jenny Kee was just great. It’s [cringes] ‘inspirational’.

When are you going back home?
I head to Melbourne tomorrow and I’ll be there for a few days, and then I’m going to head to Asia for a couple of weeks, so I won’t go home until the end of May / beginning of June or something like that.
