Portlandia Guest Stars Announced

Members of Pearl Jam, Modest Mouse, Sex Pistols, The Smiths and more.

Members of Pearl Jam, Modest Mouse, the Sex Pistols and The Smiths are set to guest star in season two of absurdist sketch comedy Portlandia. Eddie Vedder, Isaac Brock, Steve Jones, Johnny Marr, Joanna Newsom (and her harp) and St. Vincent's Annie Clark are among the music heavyweights getting in on the joke for the second round of the Lorne Michaels-produced series. The IFC show was created by SNL alum Fred Armisen and Wild Flag vocalist/guitarist Carrie Brownstein. Each hour-long episode is made up of vignette-y sketches where Armisen and Brownstein play multiple characters living in a hyper-hipster version Portland, Oregon, where the everything is organic, bike messengers rule the streets and "the dream of the nineties is alive" (as the song goes).

Musicians featured heavily in season one - one sketch had singer-songwriter Aimee Mann working a second job as Fred and Carrie's cleaning lady. In another, a band comprising Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, James Mercer of The Shins and Brownstein's former Sleater-Kinney bandmate Corin Tucker came to town for the music and arts festival, intimidating hotel employees with their vintage sunglasses and deadpan stares. Season one also featured Jason Sudeikis as a charismatic cult leader, Kyle MacLachlan as the Mayor, Gus Van Sant as a film festival host, and Steve Buscemi and Aubrey Plaza as innocent bystanders who get caught in a web of nonsense inside a feminist bookstore.

Joining the flock of musicians for season two will be 30 Rock's Jack McBrayer, SNL's Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig, Amber Tamblyn, Mary Lynn Rajskub and Oscar winner Tim Robbins.

We highly recommend you track down the season one DVD's before the new episodes start airing in January. Until then, enjoy these clips from what might be the most pitch-perfect, hilarious satire available in film or television right now.

Is it local?

The dream of the 90's is alive (in Portland, Portland).

In Portland you can put a bird on something and just call it art.
