Here at the Oyster offices, we get sent a lot of press releases. Some are great, some are not so great. And some are this:
Help Trip Sinister Adopt 10 Orangutans!

BRISBANE BAND TO ADOPT TEN ORANGUTANS!

Retro pop band Trip Sinister, from Brisbane, Queensland, will adopt one Orangutan for every $200 worth of CD sales from their single ‘Dancin with the Black Top ’. Their goal is to adopt ten of these endangered creatures by September 30th, 2010.

Rainforests in Borneo and Sumatra are currently being illegally felled for palm oil, commonly used in soap, cookies and sweets. Plantation workers are also torturing and killing the animals for coming onto the land that was once theirs. The remaining forest areas are being devastated by drought and fires. Ben Evans, Trip Sinister’s guitarist, joined the plight because he says, “We feel passionately about the orangutan, they share 97% of our DNA.”

Extinction in the wild is almost imminent for Sumatran and Bornean orangutans in the next ten years. The Australian Orangutan Project is responsible for rehabilitating and releasing orangutans back into safe rainforest areas. A spokesperson for the project says “the orang’s intelligence is comparable to that of a five or six year old child. Surely these self-aware animals deserve the right to live and to be free from torture and exploitation?”

Ever since he watched his father perform with Frank Sinatra and Pavarotti, Ben Evans has wanted to make music, as well as make a difference. Ben is the driving force behind Trip Sinister. Add to the mix a young gospel singer, Rachel Mulcair, and Nix L’Fatale, a regular in the UK’s music and fashion glitterati, infamous for stealing a moment with Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran. Trip Sinister have the eighties retro pop sound and the over the top wardrobe to complement their music!

Please support Trip Sinister in their mission to adopt ten orangutans. Their single ‘Dancin’ With The Black Top’ is out now on iTunes and all good online music stores!
