Rage's Vivid Exhibition at Carriageworks

Celebrating 25 years of nostalgia and sleep deprivation.

Carriageworks will be hosting a free exhibition dedicated solely to exploring the vaults of one of Australia's best-loved cultural institutions and late night TV shows, rage (pronouced "raay-haayge"). The exhibition, rage — Celebrating 25 Years, is part of Vivid and will take the form of a gigantic installation of over 100 television sets, all playing 750 of the best video clips and archival footage simultaneously (in the shape of the rage logo, no less).

Since it's been airing twice a week since 1987, it seems high-time that the show (which inspired many a young Australian to enjoy music that was made before they were born) should receive some serious props. Carriageworks' Beatrice Gralton has curated the exhibition in collaboration with ABC's rage production team, who probably have the best jobs ever.

Visitors will be able to use headphones to choose from a range of footage by legendary guest programmers like Nick Cave, Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Blondie, Grandmaster Flash, Michael Hutchens, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kylie Minogue, MIA and pretty much any other good musical act, ever. It is the longest-running music program in existence, you know. Imagine an Australia without those dedicated Rage specials and all-night video mix tapes! There might be less insomnia among our generation, but still, perish the thought.

rage — Celebrating 25 Years will run from June 6 — 17. Carriageworks is located at 245 Wilson St, Eveleigh, Sydney.
